Train

8546 KS: 8

An engaging brain trainer for attentiveness and thinking speed, suitable for school and older ages. The exercise is based on constant movements and changes of numbers, as well as the presence of a pattern (all numbers except one are identical). The trainer’s difficulty can be adjusted from very simple to highly challenging, allowing each player to customize it individually.

What the “Odd Number” exercise trains

Like all exercises in this section, this brain trainer targets multiple systems and provides comprehensive cognitive load.

  • Attention – the primary goal of the training. By noticing the movement of numbers or the distinct mismatch of one number compared to others, you can quickly mark correct answers, achieving a high score.
  • Reaction – an equally important component of quickly completing the task is the speed of response. It’s not enough to quickly spot the correct cell; you also need to click it as fast as possible.
  • Angle of perception – with practice using this trainer (or similar ones), the field of vision in which a person notices changes expands. Thus, while initially you may need to scan the playing field chaotically, with experience, even with a fixed gaze at the center, you’ll notice number movements at the edges.
  • Thinking speed – a key factor in determining the logic of number placement and identifying the “odd number.” While thinking plays a lesser role at basic settings, it becomes critical when complications like color and rotation are enabled.

Game rules

First, adjust the trainer’s difficulty by selecting the number size in the working cells. The easiest level is two-digit numbers, but you can increase the parameter up to five-digit numbers. The difficulty increase is indicated by the “difficulty coefficient” in the top-left corner of the playing field, which changes as you select game parameters.

Rotation – an additional challenge that increases the need for concentration during the training and requires mental effort. Number cells will be rotated in a random order, making number perception significantly harder, especially for sixes and nines.

Colored – another parameter that adds variety to our perception system. Assigning colors to number cells engages new areas of the brain’s cortex, making the training more effective and comprehensive. It’s hard to ignore color differences when searching for the odd number.

The number of cells with digits starts at a minimum and increases with each correct answer, gradually raising the difficulty of the search.

Each correct answer raises the difficulty level by one point, and the value of a correct answer in terms of points also increases. An incorrect answer lowers the level by one point and results in a penalty loss of some points.

Speed – the most critical factor affecting the final score, as only 60 seconds are allocated to complete the task.

Restart – a button in the top-right corner of the playing field allows you to instantly restart the trainer while retaining all difficulty settings.

Scoring

The formula for scoring points for a correct answer is as follows:

Your total points + DC*Level

DC – difficulty coefficient, which depends on the difficulty settings chosen before the test. You can see this number in the top-left corner of the playing field. Increasing the difficulty settings raises the difficulty coefficient.

Level – a variable value that starts at a minimum at the beginning of the training and increases by one position with each correct answer. An incorrect answer lowers the level by one position.

The formula for deducting points for an incorrect answer is as follows:

Your total points – (DC*Level)/2

The total points never go into negative values.

Multiplayer

This is a great opportunity to invite one or two opponents and compete in real-time. To do this, the player selects all difficulty settings and then shares the multiplayer game link by copying it or clicking one of the social media icons below.

The competition can begin once all participants confirm their readiness.

The playing field with numbers updates simultaneously for all participants, and only one participant can give the correct answer – the one who clicks first.

If a player gives an incorrect answer, the field does not update and waits for the opponents’ responses.

The number of points earned by a player changes color – green indicates that the player is leading, while red suggests that the points are insufficient for victory.
