What the “Book - Author” exercise trains

Like all exercises in this section, this brain trainer targets multiple systems, providing a comprehensive load.

Erudition – knowledge of popular, and sometimes less well-known, books and their authors is a hallmark of erudition. If such knowledge is limited, it can be easily and enjoyably expanded during these training sessions.

Memory – recalling details about a book, its theme, and its author requires a comprehensive mental image. This trains the long-term memory regions. The speed at which you can retrieve this information determines how quickly you complete the task.

Intuition – recalling authorship can sometimes be challenging, but intuition can come to the rescue. Even the smallest details, such as the author’s nationality or other information, can serve as clues.

Game rules

The difficulty of the training depends on the prominence of the books the player encounters. More popular works and authors are considered easy, as they are well-known and frequently encountered. Conversely, lesser-known authors and their works fall into the difficult pair category. At the start of the game, you can choose the difficulty: easy, all, or hard. While easy and hard are self-explanatory, the “all” difficulty alternates between difficult and easy pairs.

Rotation – a complication that slows down finding the correct answer, as some answers will be displayed rotated when activated, making them harder to read.

During training, questions appear on the playing field – well-known book titles you’ve likely encountered or read. From the four answer options below, you must select the author of the work. The choice is confirmed by clicking the appropriate cell.

The speed of completing the training is crucial, as time is limited, and points must be earned confidently and quickly.

Scoring

The formula for scoring points for a correct answer is as follows:

Your total points + DC*Level

DC – difficulty coefficient, which depends on the difficulty settings chosen before the test. You can see this number in the top-left corner of the playing field. Increasing the difficulty settings raises the difficulty coefficient.

Level – a variable value that starts at a minimum at the beginning of the training and increases by one position with each correct answer. An incorrect answer lowers the level by one position.

The formula for deducting points for an incorrect answer is as follows:

Your total points – (DC*Level)/2

The total points never go into negative values.

Multiplayer

This is a great opportunity to invite one or two opponents and hold a real-time competition. The player selects all difficulty settings and then sends the multiplayer game link by copying it or clicking one of the social media icons below.

The competition can start once all participants confirm their readiness.

The playing field with pairs refreshes individually for each participant, and each player provides their answers, earning an individual difficulty level. Victory is determined by points.

The number of points earned by a player changes color: green indicates that the player is leading, while red suggests insufficient points for victory. During the competition, you can observe your opponent’s progress in real-time. The mozgotren.ru platform allows competitions with up to three opponents simultaneously.
